STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) Overview
STATCOM, or static synchronous compensator, is an electrical device applied for use on AC electricity transmission networks.
Both SVC and STATCOM can be used for voltage stability. However, STATCOM has better performance than SVC. It can provide quick response speed, stable voltage, reduced system loss, increased transmission capacity, improved transient voltage limit, reduced harmonics and decreased occupation area, and so on.
Since the end of 2005, RXPE, as a renowned power electronic equipment maker, has begun to research and develop high-pressure large-capacity STATCOM. In 2006, the STATCOM test platform taking TMS320F2812 model DSP of United States TI Company as the core controller, has been successfully completed by RXPE independently. In 2007, the first STATCOM used for traction substation in China, which was developed by RXPE, was put into operation.
